Both work ok together. Next is an actual authentication, the altmaster script just allows one to play online in lan mode. Next will eventualy have tmail, forums, and warrior pages like when sierra ran the master.

When they get the auth server mess figured out and it's truly easy to play, then it will.

I haven't done much in T2, but I've done plenty in Torque for SS2845, and it's really flexible.

It's definatly easier and more fun, more things are possible in T2 then opposed to T1.

The only thing that pushed me away from T2 was the aspect of player vs. landscapes/items.. I always felt like a giant in T2... Fe Fi Fo Fum.
Physics etc i could change but the aspect i couldn't with out new models.

Wow, i like that auto download system plus it's community made :)

My VisualBasic skills are.... heh Basic so count me out of this one. But i do know an arse load of people who don't suck with it so i'll shop the idea around and see if anyone will pick it up for us.

why would you want auto downloading.. i would never trust that, and much sooner just do it manually or not download at all

Easy, if the players are uploading these files to one database of files and the whole program is linked to the database it allows players to share content more effectivly. I'm not talking just maps, everything. For mods that update regularly it could be helpful to people who want the updates as soon as possible. Same with scripts etc.

Thats one thing i've loved about most other games is the automatic updater, i don't have to search around to get the files i want/need to play whatever game.

The trust issue you brought up is a valid point but the staff of the database site would have to step in there and check to make sure the files are not infected and work as they should, if a person was to submit a crap file then a perma-ban would fix it.

Really though i doubt we'll ever have one for T1, i pitched it to a few guys who just laughed at the idea of this for an 11yr old game.
