I've made a short video of a Necromancer getting blindsided by a Neurobasher turret. Mmmmm...

Another of a Necromancer using the Ghost pack for a flag run. It can be found here:

Sweet.

How do you change .rec files into .wmv files?

Right click the demo file, delete the .rec extension and type .wmv, press enter.

Hmm.....well is there a possible way to merge a bunch of .rec to .wmv to make a single .wmv, like Simo's music videos?

Mobius, that would require a video editing application.

Phantom, sure.

I wrote a script that can fast forward and dump screenshots out of demos. I use it to watch and find a good section of a demo, then go back and dump screen shots out of it. I use Paintshop pro 6 animation shop to turn these into a .avi. Then I open up Windows movie maker -comes with Windows XP, use it to grab sound from the demo, edit the sound and .avi together, then add the credits and compact into .wmv format.

The screen shot dumper can create 7.5 gigs of screen shots in a few minutes. The origional .avi for the pitchfork video was around 100 megs without sound at 320x240 res.

Start Tribes > Demos
Dunno about the AVI thing - pretty sure the only way to do it is with some video capture software.

Another option is Fraps (www.fraps.com). It can record video from your screen while you play. It does require pretty strong hardware though.

Yes it does. I bought it after making those 2 videos, and its a great time saver. There is a definate frame rate drop on my 2.6 g p4 while recording, and it gobbles up resources. It saves movies to uncompressed .avi format that can get VERY large. Most Systems will stumble while replaying these large files as the hard drive struggles to keep up. For most systems the screen shot grabber will work well, but takes more time to add sound, and edit. Fraps works well for systems that can handle it.

When I get around to it, I'll release my screen shot grabber script in an easier to use format.

When i rename the file extension from .rec to .wmv and open it

Cannot playback the file. The format is not supported.

I didn't say the files would be playable, I only described how to change a .rec file into a .wmv file.
