I got it. Strange that it triples Tribes in size and supports OpenGL 800x600

That's because it was Dynamix's main project in the late 90s and what they devoted most of their resources to. They actually made other games around that time just to get enough capital to finish the R&D for Starsiege (like Trophy Bass 3D).

Tribes was, at first, nothing more than a pet side-project of Jeff Tunnell, Tim Gift, and Ken Embery to see how far the Darkstar engine could go. It wasn't until after release that everyone realized it was a great game in the making and fit perfectly as a direct competitor to UT and Quake.

Tribes made CTF worth playing.

I've never, EVER played CTF in any games other than the Tribes series, since defense is always more effective than offense. Tribes balances the two by making it possible for somebody to come in and grab the flag when four people are defending.
