Not if you make a pure neural AI with LOS detection.

Doesn't look like you can modify the terrain though.

finite state machines will likely be much better players than any rudimentary nn ai

nn ai take so many generations to become good at the game, whereas finite state ai are "born" good

a mix of both paradigms would be interesting, finite state for the tasking and skills, nn for some decision making and most movement

in all, t1 ai will likely never be as good as t2 ai

i have a small collection of ai stuff like nn demos and so on, pm me if you want them

I did some stuff with maze-solving AI, but it was never anything combat worthy.

my AI is combat worthy (in addition to solving any maze), but it needs more code to be more interesting.

Annihilation has enough bots playing it and repairing turrets :-D
So I prefer players instead of repairmen.

Definitely not Tribes. Jet packs are a spawn option for Marines. Elites have no jet packs. Therefor a map like broadsides could only be played by Maribes who choose Jetpacks each time they spawn. All other choices would be trapped where ever they fell.

Well, you play as "marines" (aka Spartans... the guys with all of the armor and energy shields) most of the time in Halo anyway. Also, the beauty of Halo Reach is that you can modify almost anything in the game, EXCEPT the shape of the terrain. So you can force everybody to spawn with jetpacks. You can also adjust how much fuel you have before it recharges. I am fairly confident that you could tweak Halo to be VERY close to Tribes... just without the invo stations.

Throw Tribes-like weapons into a room, call it the armory, and be done with it.

I'm praying that you can still make entirely custom material for it (IE: Halo CE)

Mounting a box with eyes on an invisible player would make the box with eyes invisible.
Making a survey droid fly itself would be very difficult to... You'd need it to be AI controlled, but AI don't do anything when mounted in vehicles by default. I'm not sure why, but I recall reading that spoonbots had solved that problem.

No you wouldn't. It's called Minimum Velocity and SetRotation.
