The Tribes: Ascend Closed Beta is currently scheduled to start on November 4, 2011.
To ensure a spot in the beta, HIREZ is offering a 'VIP' package for $29.99 that will guarantee access.
While this price does not include full access to all features in the game, it does feature a 30 day 'booster' that will increase leveling speed to unlock items in the game faster.

ATLANTA – September 14, 2011 — Hi-Rez Studios, developer of AAA free-to-play online games, today announced that the first phase of Tribes: Ascend closed beta will begin within the next few weeks. Players can apply for this initial phase at the Tribes: Ascend website as Hi-Rez Studios will be granting access to thousands of hand-selected players worldwide.

IGN did a short write up on Tribes Ascend today that included a game play video and more information on their business model. The game will be free to download and play, but loadouts beyond base armor and weapons will be purchased with in game currency or real money.

Tribes Ascend was announced today, Friday March 11 at the PAX East game festival, along with a trailer featuring Blood Eagle and Diamond Sword warriors.
Tribes Ascend is based on the Unreal engine and will be available as a digital download later this year. Developer Hi-Res studios is continuing development on the Tribes-Universe project.
